Express FC needed second half goals from mid-season signings Frank Zaga Tumwesigye and Brian Umony to overcome Nyamityobora 2-0 at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara.
The 2-0 victory was Express FC’s first in the tutelage of new coach George “Ssimu” Ssemwogerere but also the first for the Red Eagles since the start of the first round.
Zaga who missed the club’s 1-0 defeat at BUL FC, tapped home a brilliant Disan Galiwango cross the 48th minute.
The dazzling midfielder on loan from Vipers was withdrawn with 16 minutes left on the clock due to injury and his slot was taken by Lawrence Kigonya “Pantaleo”.
Nyamityobora who missed the services of their lead striker Ibrahim Dada Juma and captain Alex Komakech, put up a decent fight to salvage a point but their efforts emerged futile.
Umony put the icing on the cake two minutes to normal after capitalizing on a blunder by Nyamityobora goalkeeper Hillary Jomi.
Zaga was named man of the match on account of his outstanding performance while goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga was the only player cautioned by referee Mashoud Ssali.
Victory propels Express to the 10th place with 24 points whereas Nyamityobora remain second from the bottom having garnered only 12 points.
Asaph Mwebaze and his charges will take their relegation fight to Arua to face fellow strugglers Paidha Black Angels in their subsequent fixture on Thursday 21st February.
Express will play against Maroons on the same date in their next league game but will have to first negotiate their past Police FC in the Uganda Cup on Monday 18th February at Wankulukuku.
