28th April 2017. Azam Uganda Premier League.
After their first home defeat of the season, Mike Mutebi’s Kcca make a tricky trip to Wankulukuku to face off with 5th placed rivals Express FC.
The match comes two days after the CAF Confederation Cup draw where Kcca was drawn against FUS Rabat, Club Africain and Rivers United of Nigeria. This is also few days after Kcca lost to Vipers 2-1 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo with young defender Geoffrey Wasswa scoring the winner.
Express FC coach Mattia Lule says his boys are in good shape and ready to take on the table leaders today. He comes into today’s fixture after gaining three points from the boardroom following JMC Hippos’ failure to honour their fixture at Wankulukuku. A win today can push them to the 3rd position 5 points behind SC Villa and today’s opponents Kcca who top the log with 48 points from 24 games.
The visitors will rely on goal machine Geoffrey Serunkuma who also tops the scorers chat with 18 goals as well as midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba although he is doubtful for today’s tie.
The former Maroons and Victoria University maestro has scored 3 goals in his 3 previous Kcca-Express encounters for Kcca averaging a goal per game against Express.
Winger Brian Majwega is also likely not feature after getting injured in the Vipers game last Tuesday while the hosts have no injury to worry about.
Express is unbeaten at home since Matia Lule took charge from Wasswa Bbosa last year in November winning three and drawing three. Kcca have won only once in their last five league engagements, drawing thrice and losing once.
Express has won 3 of their last 5 home games drawing two against Vipers and The Saints while Kcca has one win, three draws and a loss in their last five league games away from home.
Just like his coach, Express lanky custodian Emmanuel Opio will be facing his former bosses today afternoon
Express are caught between a rock and a hard place, a win will bring perennial nemesis Villa back in serious contention of the title, and they dont want to disappoint their owns fans in their own backyard. Mike Mutebi needs to prove that his champions are not ready to squander their title defence by pressing a Panick button.
Wankunkuluku is the place to be.
