The Black Stars of Ghana are on the brink of failing to make it to the World Cup in Russia after falling to a 1-1 stalemate against Congo Brazaville at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
It was supposed to be a must win game for both sides who are trailing Uganda and Egypt in group E. Congo were the first to express their willingness to steal the day when Fabrice N’Guessi pounced on a mistake by Ghana defender Joseph Amattah to set up Thievy Bifuma to put the visitors in the lead on 18 minutes.
Ghana tried to come back into the game in the second half but the Congolese were determined to sit back and defend their lead only to be broken by Thomas Partey who was set up by Christian Atsu in the 85th minute to send the game in a disappointing draw for the hosts.
With 3 games to go, Uganda will play against Egypt in Alexandria and Ghana will visit Congo Brazaville next week on Tuesday. Group E is led by Uganda on 7 points, followed by Egypt on 6, Ghana on 2 and Congo Brazaville are last with 1 point.
