Following a successful non residential training, the National Woodball teams to represent Uganda at the second edition of the Beach Woodball world cup Championship will start residential training on 5th May. The sessions will be conducted by national team head coach Atamba Onesmus.
Eight men and eight women constitute the senior team whereas six boys and six girls make up the youth team. The 28 players will camp at Peniel Beach Hotel, Entebbe.
Uganda will host the 2019 showpiece between 25th May and 31st of the same month at Spennah beach in Entebbe.
Paul Mark Kayongo the Uganda Woodball Federation President is confident that they will host a successful event despite the financial hardships
“We have prepared well for this competition amidst the financial challenges but we are confident that we shall host a successful event. We are working hard to see that our team performs well in the forthcoming tournament and I am hopeful that through determination, we can go all the way and win the championship.” Stated Kayongo.
Twenty one (21) countries have so far confirmed participation and these are Uganda ( hosts), Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Somalia, South Sudan, Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambi, India, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei, China. 30 countries are expected to take part in the event.
