The Crested Cranes might have missed out on the chance to clinch the CECAFA women challenge cup but head coach Faridah Bulega is enthused about the team’s general performance and lessons picked.

The Crested cranes tactician has always cried for opportunities like this one for his team to have exposure, she believes they took it with both hands when it presented itself and the positives are there for all to see.

She said in her assessment of Uganda’s journey that,

“We have not won the trophy but we have put up a great display in the tournament. I am pleased with the general performance of my players in the championship.”

“We have played four games, beating giants Kenya and Ethiopia, lost to defending champions Tanzania and drawn against Rwanda. I believe we have generally put up a massive performance”.

It’s hard to point to a team’s general performance without highlighting a few individual brilliant contributions, and for this Bulega picks out the exciting Lilian Mutuuzo, Zaina Namuleme and goal keeper Ruth Aturo for special praise. She adds

” Although we mainly played as a collective unit, I reserve some special praise for the young Lilian Mutuuzo, Zaina Namuleme and Ruth Aturo for they have been exceptional throughout the tournament” .

On a personal perspective, Bulega asserts that she has learnt a lot especially in aspects of how to prepare for high intensity tournaments, hard fixtures and general preparation.

“I have learnt to prepare well and revise for the big guns, when we had games against great sides I had sleepless nights. But all in all we have learnt to prepare more in such competitions.”

“I believe we have built a great young team and in three years we can achieve by winning something big. I call the federation to stand with me because unity is the key to success.”

Apart from Uganda who finished all their fixtures, the rest of the teams have a game in hand. Tanzania will play against Ethiopia in the decider while Rwanda will face Kenya, both games will be played today.
