Ugandan’s U-20 team the Hippos out played the minnows of South Sudan with a superb performance of a 5-1 wallop in the first leg of the U-20 AFCON qualifiers at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo in Kampala.
Speaking to the media, the captain admitted the first half under showing was due to their lack of respect for their opponents. He said,
“South Sudan was a very organised side. They had planned well and the game wasn’t easy for us, they surprised us with their style but thank God we came back in the second half and slaughtered them “.
Poloto also expressed his joy for winning as a captain and applauded his teammates for responding to the coach’s call in the second half of the game.
“I am happy as an individual that i captained a team that won. It wasn’t easy for us in the first half but in the second half we remembered what that coaches in the told us in the dressing room and we acted swiftly and we won”.
The game was 1-1 by halftime after forward Steven Mukwala was brought down in the gola area and Mustafa Kizza converted from the spot for Uganda before Mustafa Mujuzi headed into his own goal to send the visitors into celebrations.
The return leg of this encounter will take place on 21st, April 2018 in Juba.
