Last week police fc unveiled 10 players and released nine ahead of a new Uganda Premier League season.
Coach Abudallah Mubiru has explained the club’s move to shuffle the squad.
“Our performance last season explains duly why we had to make an overhaul, we did not perform well and we had to build a team that will compete favourably “
The tactician is also grateful of his bosses who managed to give him time despite the poor performance towards the end of last season.
Police FC unveiled Juma Balinnya from Lweza, Aggrey Madoi from Vipers, Albert Mugisa from Ndejje University, Shakur Makeera from Nkumba University, Ogik Norman and Saafi Basan both from Sadolin Paints, Tamale Simon from Lungujja Galaxy, Mugume Yasin and Paul Willa from KCCA FC.
However, the former KCCA coach says they are not done yet with their signings,
“We are going to work with a squad of 23 players this season and we feel they will be enough for us since we aren’t going to compete on the continent, our focus is only on the league and Uganda Cup”.
“We have so far acquired 20 and negotiations are still underway with 3 more and if we get them probably by next week we shall be closing. Some come with experience and we have worked with some of them for the last half of last season.”
When asked about why the team performed poorly last season, he cited a lack of focus, direction and too much contempt especially from the lads to had stayed long at the club. He added,
“Some of the players had lost focus and we are trying hard to refocus our efforts and energy, that’s why we decided to bring in faces, I gave them my idea and philosophy and I hope they will buy it”.
The 2005 league champions, have also retained the services of lanky defender Martin Mpuuga from KCCA on permanent basis. Negotiations to retain Hakim Ssenkumba are in advanced stages, he will be signed permanently from KCCA FC.
Last week, The Cops announced the release of Sakka Mpiima, Michael Birungi, Anthony Bongoole, Edwin Hasule, Mayimba Yasin, Joseph Sentume, Ivan Kyotelekera, Kevin Obua and Yasin Mubiru.
Last season was disastrous for Police FC as they fought relegation only to survive at the last hour. Police finished 13th on the table on 33 points.
