Vipers were made to work by an organised Onduparaka side at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday in Fred Kajoba’s first home game in charge before Geoffrey Wasswa secured a 1-0 win.
The three time champions needed three points to extend their lead at the Uganda Premier League table to five points but were blunted by a disciplined defensive display from the Caterpillars.
With Vipers stalling, Captain Wasswa stepped up to a 56th minute free kick to inspire his side to a 14th win of the campaign.
Second half substitute Bheto Bashir came close to leveling matters but his effort was well saved by Vipers custodian Fabien Mutombora.
Victory sees, Vipers extend their stay at the top with 46 points in 20 games and five above second placed KCCA FC and will next travel to BUL FC.
The Arua based side are fifth on the UPL log with 30 points garnered in 20 games and will next host Express FC at Greenlight Stadium on 7th February, 2020.
