Wafula early strike keeps Vipers’ title defense alive

Vipers completed a double on Nyamityobora city after defeating them 1-0 at Kakyeka stadium. It was the same score when Nyamityobora visited in the first round.

Innocent Wafula scored early in the 14th minute when he volleyed home a Yayo Lutimba shot to open up his account.

Nyamityobora reacted swiftly with John Serunjogi trying his luck from a distance but Fabian Mutombora sent the powerful shot to the corner.

Close to the break, debutant Hamis Diego Kiiza almost got himself off the mark but his header got slightly above the bar.

The second period saw Nyamityobora’s hit man Ibrahim Dada ask all the relevant questions but he was kept in check by Halid Lwaliwa and the rock solid Livingstone Mulondo.

The three points help the defending champions stay on tabs with leaders KCCA and they will meet fierce rivals SC Villa in Saturday 9th at the St Mary’s Stadium.

Nyamityobora plays visitors to Mbarara city in the Mbarara derby on Friday 8th .
