VIPERS VS MAROONS: Defending champions aim at closing gap on KCCA

Vipers SC will be aiming to close the gap on leaders KCCA FC when they entertain Maroons FC today Wednesday 27th March at St.Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Vipers are second placed on the log with 45 points and four adrift of leaders KCCA whereas Maroons are 12th with 25 points accumulated in 23 games

The Venoms come into this contest after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Proline in the quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup at StarTimes Stadium two weeks back. They also lost to Ndejje University with a similar result in their previous league match.

Maroons on the other hand defeated Bright Stars 1-0 in their last league game at Luzira Prisons grounds courtesy of a Pius Obuya penalty.

In the first round meeting between the two sides, Vipers SC won 2-1 at Luzira Prisons grounds thanks to goals from Moses Waiswa and Davis Kasirye.

Vipers head coach Michael Nam Ouma believes his boys have all it takes to win the game

“It’s a game we are expected to win therefore we must play to our expectations and standards to get the required results.” Stated Ouma Via the club website.

This will be the 12th time that the two sides will be facing each other in the league. Vipers SC has never lost to Maroons, winning 7 and drawing 4 of their previous 11 meetings.

The Kitende outfit will be without the suspended duo of Bashir Asiku and Tito Okello while Geoffrey Wasswa and goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya are out through long-term injuries.

Burundian custodian Fabien Mutombora will also miss this one due to national duties, Derrick Ochan is expected to fill his void.

Dan Sserunkuma and Halid Lwaliwa are expected to lift up the home side whereas the visitors will look at Pius Obuya and Ronald Orombi to inspire them to dreamland.
