The much anticipated turning point in the title show down has turned out to be an easy cruise on which Vipers SC showed their readiness to fight for their crown until the final day.
They have beaten 10 man Villa by 3 classy goals to condemn them to their 8th loss of the season and consequently extending their winless streak to 8 games.
The Vipers showed immediately that they are in for serious matters with Bobos Byaruhanga turking in a low shot at the end of goal mouth scramble on 27th minute.
5 minutes later, league top scorer Yunus Sentamu extended Vipers’ lead, a none stop shot off an assist by Paul Mucurezi.
At this moment the Jogoos appeared clueless and Sentamu came close to completing his brace but thanks to Saidi Keni’s acrobatic save, the game went to half time with a respectable score.
Isaac Ogwang missed a clear cut opportunity in the 60th minute when he got through on goal but he chose to shoot direct into Mutombora’s hands instead of chipping the ball.
Moments later, Villa were reduced to 10 men when Gavin Kizito brought down Ceaser Manzoki who was left unmarked and heading for goal. His tackle was adjudged to have denied a clear goal scoring opportunity which is punishable by a direct red card.
Referee Ronald Kirangwa also awarded Vipers with a free kick close to the edge of the box which Paul Mucurezi beautifully struck to put the game beyond reach for the Jogoos.
Towards the 80 minute mark, Villa responded with one of the most awkward goals of the season. Goal keeper Saidi Keni made a clearance that went straight to goal, which Mutombora couldn’t stop.
Victory for Vipers sends them to 53 points, 1 behind leaders URA. The Venoms will next host Mbarara city on 18th May 2023.
