The Uganda Premier league returns this weekend after almost a 2 months break that was instituted to allow the Cranes participate in the Championship of African nations.

With the Crane’s dismal performance and consequential early exit, local league action will take centre stage with Vipers vs MYDA being the first match on the menu.

Vipers will come into this match well aware of the threat posed by MYDA, the new comers have one the league’s current top scorers in Ibrahim Nsimbe who has scored in every one of their matches this term.

Despite their appalling position on the log, MYDA are not shy at goal , they have scored 8 goals already and these have been spread in all their matches.

They picked up their first point of the season from a six goal thriller against Mbarara city in Tororo.

Vipers on the other hand have only played 3 games so far, having been pre occupied by CAF engagements. They currently sit 8th on the log having won twice and drawn once.

Team news

Former striker Yunus Sentamu made headlines last week after signing a two year deal with the side he represented 6 years ago. He has however not been active for close to two years , questions hover around whether he has regained enough fitness to play a part in this match.

Under 20 contingent of Aziz Kayondo, Najib Yiga , Bobos Byaruhanga and Richard Basangwa will not be missed. Kayondo and Byaruhanga made some starts, whereas Yigahad some cameo appearances.

Defender Livingstone Mulondo returned to training during the break, and he is in contention for a place for the first time since last year.

MYDA

The absence of fans due to COVID-19 restrictions have bitten the Tororo based side so hard, they are struggling financially and uncertainty over player emoluments has caused discomfort in camp.

Despite the troubles, MYDA have made some enforcement in defence to give cover to their leaky defense that has conceded 12 goals in 5 matches only .

Paul Musamali joins from Zambian side Buildcon FC and Fred Okot has also joined after being released by UPDF FC.

They will have to contend against Vipers without midfielder Basoga Derrick who is out injured and Doca Mweru who left for greener pastures in Kenya at Western Stima FC.
