This evening, Vipers ended KCCA’s slimmest hopes of challenging for it after falling to 2 second half quick fire goals. The defending champions also needed to react swiftly following URA’s 3-1 win against Onduparaka on Friday.

It was Vipers first win at Lugogo since the 2016/17 season when they won with a similar result in a match which Frank Zaga Tumwesigye announced his arrival in Ugandan football.

After a timid second half show from the two sides that yielded nothing to write home about, Vipers returned like men on a mission when they scored 2 goals in a space of 2 minutes to break the deadlock.

On 55 minutes, top scorer Yunus Sentamu maintained his grip on the top with Vipers opener and his 13th of the season.

As the hosts were still dusting off for Sentamu’s punch, young midfielder Hassan Jurua made another mistake that Aziz Kayondo pounced on to deliver a perfect cross that Milton Karisa hit on the volley to extend Vipers’ lead in the 57th minute.

At this moment, the timid Morley Byekwaso let lose with nothing left to protect. He made a triple a substitution by bringing on Andrew Samson Kigozi, Bright Anukani and Aliro.

His move paid off immediately when KCCA took over possession from then onwards.

They began to make relentless attacks and in the 65th minute, Denis Guma gave them a lifeline .

Vipers’ Fred Kajoba after sensing danger, he introduced Ibrahim Orit for Disan Galiwango and Milton Karisa made way for U20 AFCON star Richard Basangwa on 74 minutes.

Kajoba’s move did not stop KCCA from attacking them more but it wasn’t meant to be their day.

The final whistle went with the game at 2-1 in favour of Vipers SC, condemning KCCA to their 3rd home loss of the season and ultimately putting paid to their title challenge.

KCCA will now seek redemption when they visit a wounded Police FC at Lugogo on May 12th, whereas Vipers will host their challengers URA at Kitende in what is anticipated as the title decider proper on the same date .
