Holders Vipers SC cruised to the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup following a comfortable 3-0 victory over FUFA Big league side Kataka FC in the round of 16 tie at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday.
Goals from Yunus Sentamu and second substitutes Allan Kayiwa and Paul Mucureezi ensured that the two time competition winners prevail to the last eight.
Sentamu gave the hosts an early lead after being fed perfectly by Najib Yiga in the 5th minute of the contest.
Vipers were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute following a foul on Yiga in the forbidden area. Disan Galiwango was entrusted with the responsibility but his penalty was saved by Kataka goalie Edward Kasibante.
The Venoms could have extended their lead before halftime but both Sentamu and Bright Anukani were culprits for missing several opportunities.
In the second period, Kayiwa doubled Vipers’ advantage with a thunderous strike before Mucureezi sealed their victory with a header from a Galiwango corner kick in the 87th minute.
Meanwhile, Booma FC advanced to the quarterfinals following a 2-0 home win over Tipsa.
Ashraf Ali and Clinton Asiimwe netted in either half as the Kitara Regional side marched into the last eight.
