Vipers labour for a point away at UPDF

Pace setters Vipers SC have struggled to earn a valuable point at Bombo Military Grounds in an early league match against UPDF FC.

The results created a massive impact on the title run in as KCCA are invited to close the gap if they beat Onduparaka FC tomorrow at Lugogo. They are currently four points adrift.

Vipers head coach handed new man Hilary Mukundane his debut and another mid season recruit Bob Olwoch was named in the 18 man squad.

UPDF having gone close to 8 games without testing victory, they started this one with the vigour of a hungry lion and so were they repaid in the 36th minute.

Their goal came as result of a punishment to leftback Disan Galiwango who pulled Ivan Asimbisibwe down in the forbidden area as the striker was headed for goal. He was booked for the foul and the referee pointed to the spot.

Ahimbisibwe picked up the ball and aimed to take the responsibility of making Galiwango pay for his mistake.

He flawlessly fired a low shot that sent Fabien Mutombora the wrong way.

Ahimbisibwe was however guilty of missing a glorious opportunity towards the half time break when he failed to head down a spilled ball with Mutombora already beaten at close range.

Going into the second period, Vipers pressed higher for an equaliser and bossed more possession.

Substitute Paul Mucurezi made immediate impact when brought on for Disan Galiwango when exchanged a delightful one two with Milton Karisa and he executed a perfect lob into the UPDF penalty box but Karisa was a little late to control it and it went straight into Yusuf Wasswa’s hands.

Mucurezi further made his presence felt in the 75th minute with a sumptuous intelligent free kick that beat the army men’s defense and into goal.

That goal remained the best highlight of the second period and it consequently win a point for the visitors.

The point earned extend Vipers’ grip on the top to 40 points with their closest challengers KCCA still at 36.
