Israeli Premier League club Ashdod SC have concluded talks with Vipers SC over the signing of striker Fahad Bayo Aziz, Swift Sports has learnt.
Negotiations between the two clubs intensified early this month and an agreement was reached this week.
Bayo, who had one year left on his employment contract with Vipers, is expected to put pen to paper on a four year contract with Ashdod SC.
It should be noted that he has been on a transfer wishlist of at least five African clubs including South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns who seemingly dithered over the transfer fees in the eleventh hour despite Vipers’ willingness to sell the player.
Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Moroccan record champions Wydad Casablanca, Algerian side Entente Sportive Setif (ESS) and Tanzanian side Azam FC are the other sides that have in the past months expressed interest in signing the Vipers number 9.
Bayo put up a scintillating performance as the Venoms claimed the 2019/20 UPL title and emerged as the second highest scorer in the league with 12 goals but also provided assists on six occasions.
The former Proline FC striker scored four goals in the seven games he played for the national team The Cranes including one against Malawi in the AFCON qualifiers at Namboole.
His next destination Ashdod, is a home to Uganda Cranes defender and former KCCA captain Timothy Denis Awany and the imminent move will make Bayo the second Ugandan at the Israeli club.
Winger William Kizito Luwagga is another Uganda Cranes player who plays in the Israel Premier League with Hapoel Kfar Saba.
Fahad Bayo has previously featured for Proline FC and Zambia’s Buildcon FC. He is a former Kibuli SS student who also played for Ssingo in the Airtel Masaza Cup and Lugazi’s Friends Soccer Academy in the lower divisions.
