Vipers beat Soltilo Bright Stars 2-1 on Wednesday at the St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende to extend their lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League log.

Skipper Halid Lwaliwa and forward Cesar Manzoki scored the two Venoms goals as they cruised to maximum points.

Ibrahim Kasinde struck for Bright Stars from the spot early in the second half.

Lwaliwa gave the host the lead in the 10th minute, heading home a perfect Bobosi Byaruhanga delivery.

Vipers could have extended their lead in the first half but both Manzoki and Milton Karisa were culprits for missing several scoring opportunities.

Bright Stars were awarded a penalty after Bobosi Byaruhanga had fouled Yasin Mugume into the forbidden area.

Kasinde was entrusted with the responsibility and restored parity from the spot in the 50th minute.

Seven minutes later, Manzoki restored Vipers lead with a powerful right footed shot after being fed by Karisa.

In the 65th minute, Vipers were awarded a penalty but Bright Stars custodian Simon Tamale saved Bobosi’s effort from the spot.

Yunus Sentamu had two golden opportunities to extend the Venoms lead but the latter couldn’t strike past Tamale.

Emmanuel Loki thought he had levelled matters for Bright Stars in the closing stages of the contest but his header was cleared off the line by Paul Willa.

Vipers move up to 43 points and are now four points above second placed KCCA FC.

Bright Stars who suffered their ninth defeat of the season, remain in 15th position with 16 points in 19 games.

The Venoms will next play Tooro United on 11th March while Bright Stars host BUL FC on the same day.
