VIETNAM: Mpande scores late winner in relegation six-pointer

Joseph Mpande Mbolimbo scored a late winning goal as Hai Phong beat relegation rivals Nam Dinh 3-2 in the Vietnamese V.League on Sunday.

Mpande not only scored the late winning goal in the 83rd minute but also provided an assist for Brazilian forward Diego Silva who scored Hai Phong’s second goal of the game.

Adriano Smith scored the other goal for Hai Phong who needed nothing but victory in the encounter against their immediate relegation rivals.

Nam Dinh rallied twice in the game through Do Merlo and Rafaelson’s penalty in the 33rd and 82nd minute respectively.

Mpande found the winning the goal with the game destined for a 2-2 draw and sent the traveling Hai Phong fans into wild celebrations.

His brilliant late strike took his tally to six goals in 17 games for Hai Phong this season.

Hai Phong were reduced to 10-men after Van Hanh Nguyen attempted to assault the referee in the final four minutes of the game.

Hai Phong are now 4th on the 6-team relegation group table with 19 points heading into the final game of the season.

They will host the bottom placed Quang Nam on Saturday 31st October.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Moses Oloya featured in Ha Noi’s 2-1 win over Becamex Binh Duong while Godfrey Baba Kizito played as right back as Than Quang Ninh beat Ho Chi Minh City 2-1.
