Steven Bogere’s UPDF FC continued with their fine run in the fight to beat the drop with a 1-0 win over Mbarara City to move out of the red zone for the first time since October.
Midfielder Sulaiman Majanjalo scored the lone goal of the game from a spot kick capitalizing on a foul on Joseph Janjali in the box area in the 64th minute.
It was a game of shared dominance between the two sides but the most clear cut chances fell on the hosts’ side, notably to Joseph Janjali and Sydney Senyonga who faced the Mbarara City goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba.
Later in the game, Steven Bogere introduced Julius Kisambira and Mustafa Dongo for Sydney Senyonga and Joseph Janjali respectively to consolidate the three points.
The slim victory elevates the army side from the relegation zone to the 13th position with 20 points garnered from 19 games. Mbarara City slumps a spot down from the 11th spot on 21 points.
Mbarara City will host Maroons FC in their subsequent fixture on 10th March at Kakyeka whereas UPDF will visit Kirinya Jinja SS on 9th March at Bugembe stadium.
