Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Football Club (APR FC) have won the Rwanda Primus National League for the 2021 season.
APR beat debutants Rutsiro 6-0 at Huye Stadium and finished with 19 points, level with rivals AS Kigali but had a superior goal difference of +20 compared to Kigali’s 12.
The Army side came into the final game of the shortened season with an upper hand and only wanted a win to clinch victory.
AS Kigali beat Police FC 2-0 at Muhanga Stadium with hopes of APR slipping which never happened.
Moroccan tactician Adil Mohammed Erradi remains unbeaten in the league since taking over APR in July 2019.
It should be noted that APR also won last season’s title unbeaten after the Rwanda FA (FERWAFA) ended the league prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Rwanda Primus National League was played in a shortened version that saw 16 clubs divided into four groups of four.
The top two best clubs in each of the groups automatically qualified for championship playoffs while the rest of the teams were pitted in the relegation play off group.
APR have won the league title for a record 19th time in 26 years. Only Rayon Sports come close with nine championships.
