The 20-year-old turned himself in to a police station in Mie Prefecture, more than three hours’ drive and an 11-hour trip on public transport from his previous hotel base in Izumisano on Tuesday.

Ssekitoleko left a note in his accommodation room in Izumisano Osaka saying he hoped to work in Japan because life is difficult in Uganda.

After missing out on a slot in the 67Kg weight category at the global games, Ssekitoleko was due to return home this week.

The Games are scheduled to open on Friday 23rd July in Tokyo, Japan.
