Ugandan defender renews contract with Indian club

Richard Kasagga has signed a one year contract extension with Indian I.League side Aizawl FC.

Kasagga who joined Aizawl FC in 2018, had his initial contract expire at the end of the previous campaign.

The development was confirmed by the club’s via the social media platforms that Kasagga alongside Liberian midfielder Alfred Jaryan were rewarded with contract extensions.

Kasagga previously played for Kira Young, URA FC, KCCA FC and Lebanon’s Salaam Zgharta before he joined Aizawl FC where he has been a mainstay since then.

The stocky center back is capped 27 times with The Uganda Cranes since his debut in 2013. He was part of the team that represented Uganda in the 2014 CHAN in South Africa.

The 2019-20 Indian I.League was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 Pandemic while the 2020-21 campaign is expected soon with dates yet to be announced.

Musa Mudde (Mohammedan FC), Henry Kisekka (Gokulam FC) and Isaac Isinde (Aciesta Trau) were other Ugandan players who were playing in India last season but are all free agents currently.
