UGANDA VS MALI: The Cranes aim to take leadership of group E

Uganda Cranes will be seeking for maximum points against Mali when the two sides face off on Monday in a Group E contest of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Uganda began their campaign for a place in next year’s global showpiece with a goalless draw against Kenya in the East Africa derby last week in Nairobi.

Mali on the other hand began their quest for a first World Cup appearance with a 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Agadir, Morocco last Wednesday night, thanks to Adama Traore all important goal.

“We know that the World Cup is the highest level of competition for any team. We have analysed our first game against Kenya and tried to rectify the challenges ahead of the match against Mali.”

Uganda and Mali have previously met four times across all competitions and friendlies. The Cranes have never claimed victory over the Eagles, losing twice and two games ending in stalemates.

The most recent meeting between the two sides was at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group stage match in Gabon which ended in a 1-1 draw with Farouk Miya scoring for Uganda while Yves Bissouma netted for Mali.

Under the stewardship of Mohamed Magassouba the Eagles are slightly considered as favourites to advance to the third round of the qualifying group that comprises of three East African nations.

The visitors will look up to Moussa Djenepo, Aliou Dieng and Adama Traore the scorer of their only goal against Rwanda to maximize points.

Skipper Emmanuel Okwi, Milton Karisa, Khalid Aucho and custodian Charles Lukwago are expected to raise the Ugandan flag.
