Uganda shocked by debutants Togo, progression hopes dented

Debuting Sparrow Hawks of Togo have stunned 6 time contenders Uganda in their 2nd group C match of the Total CHAN tournament.

With Uganda needing a win to brighten their chances of progressing to the knockout out stages for the first time, it was the minnows who scored first through Patrick Mbowa’s own goal only 3 minutes after resumption from the break.

Uganda reacted quickly and they found their footing via a stunning effort from substitute Said Kyeyune whose goal also qualifies to contend for goal of the season. The Cranes’ joy lasted only 7 minutes as Togo responded through Nane who restored their lead with a well struck shot that left Lukwago eating grass.

Permutations are now against Uganda with Morocco sitting at the top having garnered 4 points, Togo 3 and Rwanda 2 . Uganda sit bottom with only one point and they will have to beat Morocco to stand a slim chance of progressing.

Uganda’s final group C match against Morocco will be played on Tuesday 26 af the Stade de la Reunification-Doula, whereas Rwanda and Togo will be played at Limbe.
