The Uganda Rugby 7s men’s team has withdrawn from the Olympics Rugby Sevens Repechage competition in Morocco due to a number of positive Covid-19 results.
The development was confirmed by the World Rugby in a statement
“The Uganda men’s team has withdrawn from the World Rugby Sevens Repêchage competition following a number of Covid-19 results determined during scheduled arrival testing.”
In line with tournament rules, the pool stage matches involving Uganda will be recorded as a bye for their opponents.”
“Players welfare is World Rugby too priority and the international federation is providing full medical and operational support to ensure the health and wellbeing of the Ugandan delegation during their period of isolation. ”

For starters, coach Tolbert Onyango, Aaron Ofoyrwotg, Joseph Aredo and team physiotherapist were all left out when the team was leaving for Morocco after testing positive.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s opponents in pool B alongside Chile, France, Hong Kong and Jamaica all underwent pre-scheduled antigen testing on Thursday morning and no positive results were found.
The event will go on from 18th to 20th June in Morocco.
