Uganda Para Volleyball Association embarks on visibility campaign


The Uganda Para Volleyball Association (UPVA) has embarked on making the sport more visible in the country.

At the Association dialogue that was held on Wednesday at MTN Arena, the President UPVA and proprietor of the game in the country Ali Kibirango revealed that they want to have a nationwide promotion of the game.

“We want to make the Para Volleyball more visible to persons with disabilities to be part of the sporting fraternity in the country.”

We hope to continue promoting the game in the country through schools, starting up clubs in various regions.”

On the challenges they face

“We lack sponsors who can help us start up a national league, promote the game in schools and in the other regions. Due to lack of a national league many have lost interest in the game.

“The other is challenge is about mobilizing of this special category of people that sometimes lack the interest to participate in sports like other people without disabilities.” The parents are also over protective to their children.” Stated Kibirango

The chairman National Council of Sports and Uganda Olympic Committee President Donald Rukare graced the event and hinted that they are ready to support Para sport in the country

“Disability sports needs to be made more visible and this is what we are discussing at policy level to see that it has more accessibility to facilitates and how Para people can be included in the agenda.” We want to see many athletes with disabilities represent the country in the forthcoming commonwealth games.”

As National Council of Sports, we are looking on the way we can support not only Para Volleyball but Para sports in general to become more visible.” Sport is important to our people since it can improve their lives.”

Said Rukare.

The Association also unveiled it’s official log that they will used to promote the plight with persons with disabilities.

The Uganda Press Association President Patrick Kanyomozi also attended the event at Lugogo.

Meanwhile, Para Volleyball has four categories which are sitting volleyball, sitting beach volleyball, standing volleyball and standing beach volleyball.
