The Uganda Golf Union (UGU) and Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) have signed a three year partnership aimed at promoting golf tourism in Uganda. This was made official on Monday 18th- February at the Uganda Golf Club Kampala where both sides signed a memorandum of understanding.
The partnership will help in promoting the Uganda Golf Open across different corners of the country with a planned tour before the main open where UTB will provide the logistics to UCU in helping to boost this Uganda Golf Tour with 50 million shillings for a year.
The mega launch of the 2019 Uganda Golf Open is slated earlier this year on 30th March Lake Victoria Serena Hotel
Innocent Kihika the Uganda Union golf president is so grateful about this partnership and believes it is great opportunity that will help in promoting tourism,
“ It is a unique opportunity for Uganda Golf Union to be in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board and I believe it will grately help in promoting tourism since we are rated among the best destinations in Africa to play golf and currently having 18 golf clubs all over the country.”
Innocent Asiimwe the CEO Uganda Tourism Board asserts that all golfers are assured of enjoying toursim because of strategic positions of the golf courses,
” Our golf courses are strategically positioned and golfers are rest assured of toursist attractions, like Jinja golf course is near the source of the Nile and the Entebbe golf club which is near the Uganda Wild Life Education Center (UWEC).”
There will be mini tours within the country Mbale Sports Club (6th April), Tooro ( 27th April), Namulonge (4th May), Mehta (18th May), Jinja (15th June), Mbarara (20th July), Entebbe (10th August), and finally Uganda Golf club Kampala( 17th August).
It will climax with the main championship series swing off on 27th August with the Junior Open, Ladies Open 29th August and amatuer open 4th September while Pro Am and professional teeing off on 10th and 11th September respectively
