Police FC came from a goal down to beat Wakiso Giants 3-1 in the quarter final first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Wakiso Giants were upfront as early as the 6th minute but Police fought back to claim the first leg advantage through Derrick Kakooza, Yusuf Ssozi and Ben Ocen.
Police makeshift left back Ruben Kimera was unfortunate to head the ball in his own net following a miscommunication with his goalkeeper Tom Ikara who had moved off his life.
The lead short-lived for only six minutes as Kakooza equalized for the Cop finishing off Tony Kiwalazi’s cross. His seemingly feeble effort found its way through Samson Kirya’s hands.
Against the run of play, Ssozi gave Police the lead when he went one on one with Kirya, rounded him and slotted the ball into an empty net in the 26th minute.
Ben Ocen who came on in the first half for Kiwalazi, stretched the lead in the 65th minute when he beat the offside trap, rushed to the goal and put the ball in the bottom left corner.
Wakiso Giants made several attempts to at least reduce the deficit but their efforts were all futile.
Viane Sekajugo had a keeper to beat opportunity but his shot was saved by Ikara whereas Tom Masiko also had a shot from a distance but didn’t hit the target.
The two sides will renew acquaintances at Lugogo in the second leg on June 4th.
