Maroons FC and URA FC progressed to the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup following respective wins against Express and Nyamityobora FC.
URA FC rallied from behind to pummel Nyamityobora FC 8-3 at The Arena of Visions in Ndejje while Maroons overcame Express in an epic penalty shoot out at Kavumba.
A first half hat-trick from Daniel Isiagi, Saidi Kyeyune’s brace and a goal apiece by Shafiq Kagimu, Joackim Ojera and Cromwell Rwothomio ensured Sam Ssimbwa’s charges progress to the next round in style.
Express lost 4-3 to Maroons on penalties following a 3-3 full-time draw in Wasswa Bbosa’s second game in charge.
Eric Kambale, Disan Galiwango and Frank Kalanda scored for Red Eagles while Steven Mukwala who bagged a brace and David Ndihabwe scored for Maroons.
In the shoot out, Abraham Tusubira, Mukwala, Edgar Bwogi and Ndihabwe scored while Patrick Bayiga’s penalty was saved by Tony Kyamera.
Express debutant Baker Lukooya saw his penalty saved by Hannington Ssebwalunyo while Galiwango shot wide. Daniel Shabena, Frank Ssenyondo, Muhammad Yiga scored theirs.
URA and Maroons join Tooro United, holders Proline FC and Wakiso Giants who already booked their berths in the round of 16.
The Round of 32 will resume on Thursday 13th February with fixture UPDF hosting Busia Young at Bombo Military grounds.
