UGANDA CUP: Express and KCCA play to a barren stalemate

The first leg of the Uganda cup quarter final between Express and KCCA FC has ended in a goalless stalemate at Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.

The return leg to determine who of the two most successful clubs of the teams of the competition will proceed to the semi finals.

The match at Wankulukuku was played on a low key with none of the teams taking risks.

However, the home team tried to make a series of attempts especially towards the end of the first period.

KCCA FC made the best attempt of the first half when left back Herbat Achai forced Express custodian Denis Otim into a super save.

The second period got more dull with the visitors resorting to fall deep and wait to catch Express on the break.

Their strategy paid no dividends as Express pegged them to their half the more.

Wasswa Bbosa made the first substitution of the evening after only 7 minutes into the second half.

Youngster Ivan Mayanja came on for Charles Musiige who failed to recover from a slight knock.

A few minutes later, defender Isa Lumu was also replaced with Denis Mubuya.

The home team were awarded with a host of free kicks outside the area but Godfrey Lwesibawa and Martin Kizza put them all to waste.

The match’s best opportunity also came from a free kick taken by Eric Kambale which forced Charles Lukwago into an acrobatic save.

Express will visit Lugogo on 4th June in the return leg to determine the aggregate winner who will progress to the semi finals.
