For the first time in their history Mbarara City have progressed to the round of 16 of the Uganda Cup after annihilating FHL FC 9-0 at Kakyeka Stadium.
Raymod Onyai scored a hat-trick, Brian Aheebwa bagged a brace while Solomon Okwalinga, Makweth Wol, Ronald Otti and debutant Ibrahim Magandanzi scored one apiece for the Brian Ssenyondo coached side.
Faith Hope and Love – FHL FC is a West Nile regional league side based in Moyo district who had eliminated Ndejje University on penalties in the previous round.
Last year’s finalists Bright Stars were ejected by Buganda Regional League side Free Stars 4-3 on penalties after a full-time barren draw.
Ronald Ssempala and Ronald Nkonge missed Bright Stars’ penalties while Alfred Onek, Bernard Muwanga and Steven Munguchi converted theirs.
Ali Kitonsa was the only Free Stars player who failed to convert his penalty while Gerald Mayombo, Allan Opio, Derrick Mbowa and Emmanuel Anguzu managed to score theirs.
Bright Stars join BUL FC, Vipers SC, Busoga United, Onduparaka FC and Express FC as the only Uganda Premier League sides who have been eliminated so far.
At Katusabe grounds in Masindi, Dove FC edged fellow FUFA Big league side Water FC 2-1.
Free Stars, Mbarara City and Dove FC join Tooro United, URA FC, Maroons, Wakiso Giants, UPDF FC and holders Proline who earlier on booked berths in the round of 16.
Action will resume on Saturday 15th February with three games to be played.
KCCA host FUFA Big League side Bukedea Town Council at Lugogo. Kitara FC face Luweero United in Hoima while Light SSS host Bugamba FC in Soroti.
