Uganda Cranes qualify for fifth consecutive CHAN tournament

Uganda Cranes humbled Burundi 3-0 to book a berth in next year’s CHAN tournament to be held in Cameroon.

The Cranes majestically marched to the continental tournament restricted to only local based players on a 6-0 aggregate score having won the first leg with the identical scoreline.

Vipers’ red-hot striker Fahad Bayo, Wakiso Giants’ Viane Sekajugo and KCCA starlet Allan Okello scored the three goals of the game played on a Saturday evening at Lugogo.

Bayo opened the scoring as early as the fifth with a perfectly finish from a Mustafa Kizza cross.

The Cranes however had to wait for more than an hour to score the second through substitute Sekajugo.

Sekajugo was on a recieving end of a Paul Willa cross in the 71st minute moments after coming on for Sulaiman Mike Mutyaba.

Okello put the icing on the cake with third one capitalizing on a howler by Burundian goalkeeper Onesime Rukundo four minutes to normal time.

The 2020 CHAN qualification campaign has seen Uganda under Abdallah Mubiru win all their four games, scoring 13 goals and conceding twice.

Uganda will play at the CHAN final tournament for the fifth straight time having featured at the previous editions in 2011 (Sudan), 2014 (South Africa), 2016 (Rwanda) and 2018 (Morocco).
