UCU Lady Cardinals edge Kawempe Muslim to clinch Independence cup glory

UCU Lady Cardinals edged FUFA Elite champions Kawempe Muslim 5-4 on penalties to be crowned 2018 Uganda Women football Association Independence Cup winners at Kazo playgrounds.

The contest had to be settled by shootouts following a barren stalemate between the two FWEL heavyweights.

It was however a tight and cagey game in normal time and the fans who were in attendance indeed had a wonderful evening of football.

Kawempe skipper Mariam Nakabugo missed in the penalty shootout sending the Kawempe Muslim faithfuls into sadness while the UCU fans who flocked to Kazo playgrounds, fathers, daughters, sons and groups of friends revelled into a perfect evening.

Aturo not only saved Nakabugo’s penalty but she also showed her prowess making unbelievable saves denying the FWEL champions on several occasions.

In the Primary category, goals from Nanyonjo Jarida, Tamale Hanisha and Nagadya Novena were enough to inspire Jolly Primary School to a 3-0 victory over Bembe Hill Primary School.

Nakato Rebecca made remarks as her all important goal was enough to inspire Kawempe Muslim to a 1-0 win over Pride College Mpigi in the Secondary schools Final.
