National Council of Sports has named Uganda Athletics Federation as best member Association of the year 2019.
This was during the NCS end of year dinner held at Hockey Grounds, Lugogo on Wednesday at a function that was attended by the outgoing State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi, Commissioner of Physical Education Omara Apita, Uganda Olympic Committee President William Blick, NCS General Secretary Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel and Federation Presidents in the country.
Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otuchet thanked NCS for the support and hailed Athletes Joshua Cheptegei and Halimah Nakaayi for tremendously excelling in this year’s International Association of Athletics Federations championship (IAAF).
“I thank National Council of Sports for the support rendered to us. We wouldn’t have achieved the success this year without the government hand. I thank athletes Joshua and Nakaayi who tremendously excelled at the IAAF championships.
Uganda is now known around the world that we are a great at athletics. We are looking forward to performing in next year’s Olympic games and other championships.” He stated.
This year, Cheptegei won gold at the IAAF championship in the 10000m held in Doha and came out on top in the World Country which took place in Aarhus, Denmark.
Nakaayi is the 800m world champion following a remarkable performance at the world championship in Doha.
Last year, FUFA was named the best run federation in the country.
