• Tanzania 2-1 Uganda
Teenage striker Aisha Masaka scored a brace as Tanzania beat Uganda 2-1 in the first leg of the FIFA U-17 Women Cup qualifiers played at National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday afternoon.
The defeat was the first suffered by the Uganda U-17 female team since it’s establishment in August last year.
Fauzia Najjemba put Uganda in the lead as early as the fourth minute with a right footed low shot from outside the box.
Masaka levelled matters in a similar manner. A right footed low effort at the edge of the box was able to find it’s way to the back of the net through Daphine Nyayenga’s gloves.
The Tanzanian number 10 however failed to convert a penalty in the 85th minute after she was fouled by Bira Nadunga in the box. Her effort went few inches wide from target.
She then made amends with the winning goal three minutes later after beating Gillian Akadinda with pace to send a low shot that squeezed through Nyayenga and Gloria Namugerwa.
The two sides will meet in the second leg slated for 14th March at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo where the aggregate winner will face Cameroon or Sao Tome in the final round.
