Gambia 1-1 Mali
Gambia scored a late penalty to snatch a point against Mali to consolidate their surprise lead on the Group F table.
Both sides scored through penalties which were awarded after a review by the Video Assistant Referee.
Ibrahima Kone converted for Mali to break the deadlock in the 79th minute after Yves Bissouma was brought down in the box three minutes earlier.
Gambia who spent the entire game behind the ball, were handed a glorious opportunity to equalizer when Bissouma handed the ball in the box in 88th minute.
After a VAR review, Musa Barrow stepped up and flawlessly converted the penalty to tie the game at 1-1.
Earlier on, Gambia hit the woodwork twice from free kicks by Musa Barrow and Ablie Jarrow in the 21st and 38th minute.
Mali’s best opportunities came in the second half when substitutes Adama Noss Traore and Amadou Haidara who were brilliantly denied by the Gambian goalkeeper Modou Jobe.
Gambia and Mali lead the table with four points from two games.
Mali will face Mauritania in the final game on Thursday 20th January. Gambia will take on Tunisia on the same day.
