Mbarara City have signed central defender Bashir Muweesi from Kampala regional league champions Katwe United.

Muweesi has signed a three-year contract with the Ankole Lions on arrival.

The former Kisugu United lanky defender has been a mainstay in Katwe United’s campaign guiding them to a consecutive FUFA Big League promotion play off.

Muweesi becomes Mbarara City’s second signing after Gaddafi Gadinho who joined from Onduparaka.

He fills the void left by the already departed Muhammad Rashid and joins the defensive department that boasts of Captain Hillary Mukundane, Ronald Otti Ociti, Zaidi Byekwaso and Stephen Othieno among others.

Mbarara City is reportedly in pursuit for Gadinho’s former teammate Viane Sekajugo who is currently a free agent since his contract expired at the end of the concluded season.

Under the tutelage of Livingstone Mbabazi, the Ankole Lions finished fifth last season having garnered 46 points from the 30 games played.
