Crested Cranes captain Tracy Jones Akiror tips Uganda to eliminate Cameroon and thereafter book a berth in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup slated for November in India this year.
Akiror currently based in USA, says the Uganda U-17 team has what it takes to make the World Cup dream a reality.
” I know our next opponent is Cameroon but there is nothing really to worry about. Just good preparations will finish the job. The girls just need to keep the team work, the focus, determination, confidence and persistence. I feel it we are already in World Cup. We are already in India!” Akiror said in an interview during the weekly Tugukyangira Bunyira Show on 102.1 Fufa FM.

The former Kawempe Muslim midfielder lauds Ayub Khalifa’s technical team and his players upon eliminating Tanzania with a comprehensive victory.
” I thank the girls for eliminating Tanzania just like they had promised before the game. They promised and delivered. Special thanks goes to the technical team for providing the right training and tactics that they used to put up a good display and the fans as well for turning up in big numbers.”

Uganda overturned a 2-1 first leg defeat with a 5-0 victory to overcome Tanzania (6-2 on aggregate) thanks to Juliet Nalukenge’s brace and a goal apiece from Grace Aluka, Fauzia Najjemba and Margaret Kunihira.
Nalukenge who has been the team’s main source of goals, joint tops the leading scorers’ chat with five goals alongside Ghana’s Ophelia Amponsah and Tanzanian Aisha Hamis Masaka.
Uganda will face Cameroon’s Les Lionnes who thumped Island nation Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 on aggregate.
The final qualification round is scheduled to take place in May with Uganda hosting the first leg in Kampala before traveling to West Africa a fortnight later.
Cameroon will be aiming for their third ever World Cup appearance unlike the Ugandan side that was only established in August last year.
Only three slots are available for the African continent in the U-17 Women World Cup to be held in November this year.
Other final qualification round games pit heavyweights Ghana against Nigeria while South Africa are destined to face Morocco.
