TOKYO 2020: First batch of Uganda Olympic bound athletes flagged off

Uganda has on Thursday flagged off the first batch of Olympic bound athletes ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Global games.

State Minister for Sports Hon.Hamson Obua flagged off the team that depart on Friday 18th June aboard Qatar Airlines for 2021 pre- games training camp in Izumisano, Osaka Japan’s.

The first batch of athletes comprises of three boxers Shadir Musa Bwogi (Welterweight), David Ssemujju (Middleweight), Catherine Nanziri (Flyweight).

The others are Weight lifter Julius Ssekitolejo and Swimmer Atuhaire Ambala.

Ambala will compete in the 100 metres free style and travels with a personal best of 53.89.

Middleweight Boxer David Ssemujju will be at the 2020 global games in Tokyo

Swimmer Kirabo Namutebi will link up with the rest from Kazan Russia where she is currently.

Team Bombers with Uganda Boxing President Moses Muhangi

Boxing coaches Meddie Mulandi, Patrick Lihanda and Weightlifting coach Hakim Ssempereza are also part of the traveling contingent.

The Government official on the contingent is the National Council of Sports assistant General Secretary David Katende Ssemakula.

Catherine Nanziri Uganda’s first ever female representative at the Olympic games

The flag off ceremony was attended by Chief De mission Beatrice Ayikoru, NCS General Secretary Patrick Ogwel, Uganda Olympic Committee President Donald Rukare, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, officials from the Japanese Embassy among others.

The other athletes are expected to travel in July while the track competitors will be among the very last.
