Tito Okello netted a sensational hat trick as Vipers SC beat BUL FC 3-2 at Njeru Technical Centre to restore their five point lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League table.

A victory of this sort ridicules the ides that football is a team game. Everything rested with the vision and touch of Okello.

BUL had the tenacity to pull level from 2-0 down, but those attributes were not sufficient when Vipers SC had the majesty of Okello.

The sheer range of his work was beyond the scope of the opposition’s defence and he found the winner in the 73rd minute.

The contest was Arthur Kyesimira’s first game in charge as permanent head coach of the Jinja outfit.

His men had plenty of character, with the contributions of Fredson Gwoto and Robert Mukongotya. Even so, the Venoms are still to impose their authority on this campaign. The blessing for Fred Kajoba coached side lies in the fact that they continue to have a few men who can sway a game as Okello did.

This is the 11th win for Vipers against BUL FC in 18 games. The Jinja based side has only won twice and other five games between the two side have ended in stalemates.

Okello gave the visitors the lead in the 18th minute from the spot after he had been brought down by BUL defender Denis Okot.

He doubled Vipers’ advantage in the 28th minute off a Fabien Mutombora long ball to send the traveling fans into jubilation.

Six minutes later, Gwoto pulled one back for the hosts before Mukongotya leveled matters in the 38th minute.

Okello completed his hat trick in the 73rd minute with a sublime finish to inspire the Venoms to a much needed victory.

Fahad Bayo’s absence was a minor matter because the Venoms had no need to count on him when anotjer striker teemed with a virtuosity.

Vipers SC will next host their closest challengers KCCA FC on 18th February at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende. They remain at the summit with 49 points

BUL FC remain winless in the second round of the campaign, having lost four and drawn once in their last five games. They are sixth on the log with 30 points in 21 games and will next face Proline FC on February, 19th.
