Bombo based club The Saints fc started training for the 2017-18 season and have confirmed the release of 5 players from their squad. The Army club which is also going to represent Uganda at the East African Military games in August, is set to change its name from The Saints to UPDF FC following a change in ownership at the start of last season.
The club has released former Cranes midfielder Noah “Babadi” Kasule, alongside Lubega Moses, John Wakalaita, Ivan Kiweewa “Kalolo” and Walusimbi Augustine.
“We have released only 5 players so far and we are yet to replace them. We are soon recruiting new ones especially from selected army divisions.” Said assistant coach John Kayanja
Noah “Babadi” Kasule who joined in at the start of 2016-17 season played a pivotal role in the club’s fight for survival but his stay has not been renewed.
Former Proline player Lubega Moses has been axed after spending only 5 months with The Saints while Former SC Villa winger Ivan Kiweewa “Kalolo” has been shown the exit putting an end to his 2 year stay at The Saints.
Striker John Wakalaita has been let go after failing to impress and falling out of favour in the pecking order behind Julius Malingumu and veteran Godfrey Wakaza. Wakalaita had switched to Bombo shortly after the end of last season’s first round from Kirinya Jinja SS.
The five add on to defenders Rogers Aloro and Aggrey Kirya who recently left the club for greener pastures at Sofapaka and Onduparaka fc respectively.
Last season, The Saints finished 12th on the 16 team table with 33 points and hosted their games at Bombo Military grounds as well as the champions stadium in Matugga early in the second round.
