While the men’s NBL final played in best of 7 series format is scheduled for the 5th January 2018, the Women’s final kicks off this Sunday, 26th at Lugogo MTN arena.
Defending champions take on KCCA Leopards in a 7 series final. UCU eliminated JKL Lady Dolphins to earn their spot in the final while KCCA Leopards swept A1 Challenge.
The 2 teams have already met thrice this season, once in the Zone V championship and twice in the NBL regular season with KCCA winning both league games with a slim gap in points.
The Leopards won the first meeting in round one with a 5 point margin, 66-61 with Chemutai Joy scoring 19 points, 2 more points superior to UCU’s Sarah Ageno who scored 17.
The two teams faced off in round 2 a few days to the FIBA zone V where both teams would go on to participate representing Uganda.
Just like the first meeting the story was not far different. An epic showdown which saw UCU’s Sarah Ageno and Vilma Achieng score a total of 36 points all together.
Vilma alone scoring 19 while Sarah scored 17 on the night a far superior individual performance in terms of points compared to KCCA’s 13 points scored by Martha Soigi.
Nevertheless, KCCA went on to win the game this time with just a single point difference, 62-61.
The two teams were last year’s finalists in an amazing set that saw UCU win the title after game 7.
UCU defeated KCCA 66-61in a game KCCA’s Soigi Martha scored 17 points ,the highest mark in the game though could not stop UCU winning their 6th title.
UCU seeks to equal Lady Bucks on 7 NBL titles while KCCA seek to win their 5th having last won it in 2014.
