Taibah Badminton tournament postponed

The Taibah Badminton tournament has officially been suspended following the statement read by the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, 18th March, the 20th edition of the event was officially launched at Taibah Junior school, Kawempe.

This year’s championship was to be staged from Friday, 20th to 22nd March at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

Simon Mugabi the Uganda Badminton Association CEO, confirmed the cancellation of the event

“According to the statement read by the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. We have postponed the Taibah Schools Tournament until a suitable time during the second term.”

During the launch, Taibah International Schools had again bankrolled the tourney with a financial package of Shs11m.

Close to 30 Schools had confirmed participation in this year’s tournament with participants from both Primary and secondary schools competing in categories of U10, U13, U15 and U19 with individual as well as team events.

After a successful Uganda International Open that attracted both local and international participants, this was the second event on the Uganda Badminton Association calendar.

Kakungulu Memorial School boys team and Mbogo High School girls were due to return to Lugogo to defend their titles.
