Mamelodi Sundowns have officially named Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena as joint head coaches.

The duo replaces Pitso Mosimane who was appointed as Al Ahly head coach.

Mokwena and Mngqithi served as Mosimane’s assistants as the Brazilians won a domestic treble last season.

“Mamelodi Sundowns today announced the appointment of Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena as head coaches with Mngqithi prevailing when there isn’t consensus.” Read a club statement.

The two tacticians’ primary role next season will be helping the club defend the PSL title as well as other trophies.

The club won five league titles, three Nedbank Cups, one CAF Champions League and one CAF Super Cup during Mosimane’s eight year tenure.

The new PSL campaign will commence on 24th October but will be preceded by the MTN8 quarterfinals, with those games slated for the weekend of October 17-18.

Sundowns will face Bloemfontein Celtics in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 which will be a repeat of last season’s Nedbank final.
