Sundowns join race to sign Vipers’ Fahad Bayo

Uganda Cranes and Vipers SC lead striker Fahad Bayo is on the transfer wishlist of four African clubs, Swift Sports has learnt.

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns are the latest club to express their interest in signing the Ugandan striker.

Bayo’s scintillating performance at Vipers and in the national team colours has garnered him interest from clubs across the continent.

The other clubs who wish to sign Bayo include Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly SC, Algeria’s Entente Sportive Setif (ESS) and neighbors Azam FC of Tanzania.

Sundowns is a home to Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango and any possible move for Bayo could make him another Ugandan on the Masandawana roaster.

Five months ago, Bayo was on Wydad Casablanca’s radar but no compromise was reached between the involved parties.

Swift Sports understands that Vipers are willing to enter trade for their talisman should a lucrative offer be tabled by any of the interested clubs.

It should be noted that Bayo joined the Kitende outfit at the start of the concluded season on a two year contract.

He was instrumental in Vipers’ campaign of winning the 2019/20 league title as well as the FUFA Super Cup in August last year.

Bayo’s 2019/20 stats on the glance
Bayo was the second league top scorer of the 2019/20 season with 12 goals but also provided assists on 6 occasions.

Additionally, he scored a brace on his debut as Vipers beat rivals KCCA 2-0 at Wankulukuku in the FUFA Super Cup.

He also scored one goal in the Stanbic Uganda Cup as the Venoms were shown an early exit.

Overall, Bayo was involved in Vipers’ 21 goals in the total 25 games he played, scoring 15 and providing assists on 6 occasions.

National Team Delight
The former Proline striker scored a total of four goals in the seven games he played for the national team.

Notable was Cranes’ second goal in the 2-0 win over Malawi in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers at Namboole.

He bagged two goals in the 2019 CECAFA tournament which was eventually won by Uganda as well as scoring once in Cranes’ qualification for their fifth CHAN final tournament.

Bayo has previously featured for Proline FC and Zambia’s Buildcon FC. He is also a former Kibuli SS student who also played for Ssingo in the Airtel Masaza Cup and Lugazi’s Friends Soccer Academy in the lower divisions.
