Mbarara city have denied KCCA FC an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Uganda premier league when they held them to a goalless draw at Kakyeka stadium.
The 12 time champions have not beaten Mbarara city since their elevation to the top flight league with all the four meetings ending in draws.
The same story transpired this evening as Mike Mutebi sat out the first of his four match ban imposed on him by the federation.
The hosts looked more threatening in the opening minutes of the game and nearly hit the back of the net through striker Jude Ssemugabi.
At the break, both sides had to settle for a goalless draw.
Four minutes after the recess, Allan Kyambadde had a chance to fire the visitors into the lead but the forward was denied by the woodwork.
In the 69th minute, Kyambadde had another golden opportunity to fire KCCA FC into the lead but he blasted it wide.
Mbarara City introduced on Swalik Bebe Ssegujja for Ivan Eyam and Raymond Onyai replaced Jude Ssemugabi to make his debut.
KCCA FC withdrew Allan Okello for Muwadda Mawejje, Sulaiman Mutyaba for youngster Sadat Anaku and Muzamir Mutyaba for Isaac Kirabira.
Mbarara City custodian Ali Kimera was cautioned for handling the ball outside his goal area.
This season Mbarara City has managed 2 wins and 3 draws against giants SC Villa, Express, KCCA FC and Vipers SC.
KCCA FC stays at the summit with 37 points accumulated in 16 games whereas Mbarara City are third placed on 29 points.
Livingston Mbabazi’s side next travel to Maroons FC on Tuesday 5th February while KCCA FC host Onduparaka FC on the same day.
