Cup debutants and Big league promotion favourites Wakiso Giants have stunned UPL outfit Tooro United 4-2 on penalties to seal their berth in the last 8 of the tournament.
Tooro United were the pre match overwhelming favourites to proceed to the quarter finals after eliminating defending champions KCCA FC on the round of 32.
They were however caught up by the fatigue generated from the previous three high intensity premier league matches where they beat Express Fc, Paidha Black Angles and drew against Vipers SC.
The two teams played to a goalless stalemate at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe and it was left to spot kicks to separate the tie.
Lady luck could not favour Tooro United twice despite Joel Mutakubwa’s heroics in the previous round.
John Byamukama Toki and marauding left back Isa Mubiru failed to convert their kicks, whereas Mike Kawooya and Joshua Kaliisa managed to complete their tasks.
Wakiso Grants’ Hassan Wasswa Dazo, Isaac Ntege, Ivan Kiwewa and James Kasibante all flawlessly converted their spot kicks to send their team to the first ever quarter finals on the first first time trying.
Head coach Ibrahim Kirya is presented with a chance to win a cup he won 3 years ago with SC Villa in when he beat KCCA.
