STANBIC UGANDA CUP: Tense showdown as Bright Stars and Express battle for first leg advantage



The Uganda Cup semi final draws ensured that there will be a Big league side against a Premier league side in the finals to be played at Masaka recreation grounds.

Kyetume will face off with Rwenzori group leaders Proline FC , whereas the record winners Express FC visit Bright Stars in the two legged semi final.

The return of former captain George Ssimwogerere has seen the resuscitation of Express’ might of challenging the top prizes in the game.

He began with the ejection of Police in a tense penalty shoot out that ended in 4-1 rout by Express FC.

Bright Stars’ exploits in the cup have been highlighted by the shock 2-1 defeat of URA FC in the round of 16 at Mandela national stadium.

The two will face off today in the first of a two legged tie with Bright stars holding an upper hand having already held them at Mwerere in the first round of the league.

Out of the 11 meetings between the two sides, Express has won on three occasions with Bright stars winning twice, the rest ending in draws.

Express will be without young striker Eric Kambale who has been complaining of an ankle injury sustained in the 3-1 loss to KCCA FC in the league.

Deputy captain Isaac Mutanga has also failed yo shake off a knock received on the same match but Ssimwogerere has enough options to cover for him with John Revita enjoying the form of his life.

Nelson Senkatuka will be expected to shoulder the burden of lifting Bright Stars to their maided cup final, Brian Kayanja, Augustine Kacanchu and marauding left back Dan Birikwalira are his other trusted lieutenants.
