Frank Kalanda converted a late penalty as Express beat Kyetume 1-0 at Wankulukuku to storm the Stanbic Cup round of 16 stage 3-2 on aggregate.

The game was destined for a goalless draw until the 86th minute when referee Rajab Bakasambe awarded Express a contentious penalty after Martin Kizza went down following a challenge from Felix Okot.

Kalanda, who came on for Muzamir Mutyaba at the start of the second half, stepped up and converted it flawlessly.

Earlier in the first half, Kyetume had the best chance of the game when Ezra Kizito Kaye was one on one with the keeper Denis Otim following a defensive howler but blasted the ball way above the bar.

Kizza had a chance to break the deadlock but failed to hit the target after a wonderful interplay with John Toki Byamukama in the 78th minute.

Express will now shift attention to the league where they will take on SC Villa on Wednesday while Kyetume will visit BUL FC on Tuesday.

Tooro United, Police, Wakiso Giants, Vipers SC, BUL FC, Maroons, Proline and Onduparaka are other teams that have qualified for the round of 16.
