Ssekamatte on the brace as Bright Stars shine against Paidha Black Angels

SINAN RAJUB SENOGA

Soltilo Bright Stars overcame Paidha Black Angels with a 3-1 victory to book a place in the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Following a first leg 1-0 defeat in Paidha, Bright Stars needed a win of at least a two goal margin to qualify for the next round.

Sulaiman Ssebunza and Samuel Ssekamatte Kayongo were on target to ensure the Baker Mbowa coached side topple Paidha Black Angels aside.

Captain Ssebunza opened the day with a penalty in the 24th minute before Ssekamatte made it 2-0 a minute to the halftime break.

Three minutes into the second half, Ssekamatte grabbed his second of the day and a third one for the home side.

The former KCCA and Kira Young striker was then rested for winger Joseph Akandwanaho.

Paidha Black Angels who are coached by Allan Kabonge, pulled one back through a Ronald Nkonge own goal in the 87th minute.

Soltilo Bright Stars were able to hold on to their 3-2 aggregate score that seemed fragile in the closing minutes of the game.

The 2019 runners up now join a list of 15 team that have qualified for the round of 16, that is; Vipers, BUL, KCCA, Express, SC Villa, URA, Mbale Heroes, Tooro United, Police, Maroons, Proline, Wakiso Giants and Onduparaka.
